2008
It has been quite an interesting year, starting off with a pretty damp winter followed on with a very wet spring. The biggest headache was trying to maintain clear water throughout the lakes from an almost continual colouring up of the river Dun which in turn feeds the lakes.
Weed became a major problem in Long lake being impossible to cut and float. The highly recommended WATERPLANT Ltd were called in with one of their specialised weed boats, and with skipper Dave at the controls, accompanied by Cocoa his dog, a superb job was done by raking many tons from the lake.
We were visited by a number of companies and clubs throughout the year holding private events. Worthy of a mention is Mr Sid Parry from London. Sid runs a competition throughout the season to raise money for the DEMELZA TRUST CHILDRENS HOSPICE. Well done Sid and hope to see you and your mates again in 2008.
The Christmas gift fly fishing course—instigated by Tim a couple of years ago and run over a weekend last April—proved very successful, introducing many new men and women into the sport. This year seems to have been even more popular causing us to run this event across 2 weekends.
The fish ticket prices that were held at 2006 levels throughout 2007 have been revised, an increase of approximately 10% has been added and we hope this does not cause you any inconvenience.
We would now like to take the opportunity to thank all our customers for their support throughout 2007, wish you all a happy and successful new year and look forward to welcoming you to Holbury Lakes in the future.
Yours sincerely,
Nick Parker
